Contactless Payment Systems

Contactless payments are on the rise in the convenience payment sector and companies like Commidea who supply companies like Eat and Pret A Manager are at the forefront of this technology. The announcement that Orange will partner with Barclaycard to further extend the concept to the mobile phone will make a major impact on how customers pay for small value transactions.

International POS Ltd(IPOS)have supplied the Commidea Ocius chip&pin solution for a number of years to the retail and hospitality industry and the benefits are well known when they invest in the necessary technology.

IPOS believes further analysys is necessary before retailers can justify extending the normal chip&pin solution to contactless for the transactions below £15.00. It is clear however that as its popularity increases the pressure for retailers to make the additional investment will also grow.

The Thatched Cottage Combine Hospitality and Retail Scanning System

The Thatched Cottage Restaurant in Sutterton near Boston is well known in the area for providing excellent local produce cooked to perfection in beautiful surroundings.

Marion and Bob Lowrie acquired the Thatch on 17 January 2005 and since then the garden room, patio and country park have been created. The restaurant and kitchen have also been refurbished. The Thatch has been restored and new tie rods fitted to ensure that this beautiful old grade 2 listed building which dates back to the 12th century stands for many more years to come.To add to the atmosphere the dining rooms include paintings by local artists; Cecily Machin & Hugh Marrow.

The plan is also to introduce a farm shop in February where local Lincolnshire produce may be purchased. Bob requested IPOS to provide an integrated system which would not only provide a solution for the busy bar and restaurant but also for the farm shop.

IPOS recommended Poswyse software with Tysso touch screen terminals to provide the integrated EPOS system. The addition of a Cas Weighing scale with a bar code printer was also supplied for labeling fresh local produce. Poswyse software was configured to scan the variable weight bar codes on the shop pos scanning terminal.
