POS Printers can be connected to EPOS / PC systems in two
ways:
-
Serial - This is the most common printer interface for
POS systems. The printer plugs into a standard RS232 serial
port on your POS system or PC. The port is generally labelled
COMx - where x is the number of the COM Port.
-
Parallel - With this connection printer plugs into a
standard parallel port on your POS system or PC. Usually
labelled LPTx where x is the number of the pararllel printer
port.
My printer isn't printing what
should I check?
-
Ensure that the printer is connected to the correct port
on your POS terminal / PC and that all cables are attached
securely.
-
Ensure that the printer has power and is turned on.
-
Ensure that the printer is not showing an error - normally
a flashing led - refer to your printer manual
-
Carry out a test print to ensure there is no printing
problem with the printer itself - this is normally achieved
by turning off the printer, holding down the FEED button
and then turning the printer power back on.
-
Check that your software / PC / POS system is configured
to use the correct port for printing
-
If connected to a serial port ensure that the communication
settings of the POS terminal / PC / Software and the printer
match. Refer to your printer manual for instructions on
setting the RS232 baud rate, data bits, stop bits and
parity.
-
If you are using Windows ensure that the correct driver
for your POS printer is loaded.
-
If you are using Windows try changing the margin settings
within your application.
