POS Printers can be connected to EPOS / PC systems in two ways:
Serial - This is the most common printer interface for
POS systems. The printer plugs into a standard RS232 serial
port on your POS system or PC. The port is generally labelled
COMx - where x is the number of the COM Port.
Parallel - With this connection printer plugs into a standard parallel port on your POS system or PC. Usually labelled LPTx where x is the number of the pararllel printer port.
Ensure that the printer is connected to the correct port on your POS terminal / PC and that all cables are attached securely.
Ensure that the printer has power and is turned on.
Ensure that the printer is not showing an error - normally a flashing led - refer to your printer manual
Carry out a test print to ensure there is no printing problem with the printer itself - this is normally achieved by turning off the printer, holding down the FEED button and then turning the printer power back on.
Check that your software / PC / POS system is configured to use the correct port for printing
If connected to a serial port ensure that the communication settings of the POS terminal / PC / Software and the printer match. Refer to your printer manual for instructions on setting the RS232 baud rate, data bits, stop bits and parity.
If you are using Windows ensure that the correct driver for your POS printer is loaded.
If you are using Windows try changing the margin settings within your application.
